Many of you might remember last year’s “Paris’ First Official Kale Evening” hosted by myself and Verjus. It was a lot of fun and Verjus owners Braden & Laura adapted their bar menu to have each item include kale in some way. And the results were delicious.
Because Braden & Laura are two of the sweetest people on the planet, they offered to host another kale evening, but this time for first ever National Kale Day!
National Kale Day is an initiative started by Dr. Drew Ramsey and Jennifer Iserloh of Skinny Chef. They are also the authors of the newly released 50 Shades of Kale recipe book.
The goals for National Kale Day are simple. Get people to sign the petition for NKD (with hopes that President Obama will make it an official day!) and encourage people to eat kale on the first Wednesday of October.
As a non-profit effort, the team of National Kale Day (yes I am on the advisory board), has been working hard to spread the word and organize a few fun events for the day. And we’ll be checking in via a Google Hangout live from Verjus to tell everyone back in America just how much Paris Loves Kale.
To also celebrate the first National Kale Day, I am giving away a signed copy of 50 Shades of Kale.
How to enter:
- Sign the National Kale Day petition on change.org.
- Like National Kale Day on Facebook (and share if you’re so inclined!)
- Leave a comment on this post telling me signed the petition and HOW you would serve kale at a party!
Giveaway open to everyone in the world and ends on Wednesday October 2 at Midnight EST.

I have signed the petition and liked the facebook page.
About kale dishes at a party. Kale salad, as usual. Kale wrap, loaded with veggies and tofu or chickpeas. Kale chips. Since it is getting chillier, I would make some bean stew and put the kale in at the end. Kale gratin will be nice for big dinner party too. But my all time favorite though, is still the kale salad, it is so easy to adjust to different season. :)

Petition signed!
For the party, I’d go with a very simple raw kale salad with cranberries and walnuts.
Or I’d make some kale chips!
Question though, for the Kale Day celebration at the Verjus Wine bar, is there somewhere to go to see the menu/prices ahead of time and get more information about the event?

Signed the petition! I went looking for Kale when I first arrived in Paris and was promptly told it was for cows and not people (!!!). I will be making a simple recipe on kale day (if I can find some) of sautéed kale in ginger, scallions, sesame oil, and with a bit of soy sauce as dressing.

Love the idea of National Kale day, just signed the Petition and will be there to celebrate the big event.
Unfortunately I’m probably one of the very few that do not have a Facebook account, so I can’t endorse my approval. However I would love to have a signed copy of Fifty Shades of Kale….if possible.
I would serve a Kale cocktail at a party. Kale juice, mixed with a little ginger & lemon juice and a shot of vodka….shake it up with some ice and enjoy ! I will call it The Green Goddess . ;))

Petition signed as well. Every day is kale day around here. But a Kale Ceaser and Kale Chips would definitely be served. And then some pasta with kale pesto. Oh and cupcakes with kale colored icing.

Facebook paged liked and petition signed!
I’d make an all-kale menu for the evening. I’d start with an incredible (mini/shooter size) kale, mango, banana, strawberry, and almond milk smoothie to start (since the weather is still nice in Paris, we can go for something chilled!). And champagne as the other apperitif. Then I’d have some kale chips made with amazing fleur de sel for guests to snack on. For our starter, I’d chiffonade some dino kale and make a salad with goat’s cheese, cucumber, tomato, bell pepper, and a tahini dressing. Next I’d serve the fettucine, kale, and sausage dish that I loveee (http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Fettuccine-with-Sausage-and-Kale-233976) with freshly grated Parmesan on top. After that, I’d bring in the cheeses: Comte, Saint Felicien, Sainte Nectaire, a nice herby chevre, and a nice stinky bleu cheese, whichever the cheese guy recommended that week and some nice tradition baguettes. Finally, I’d serve a chocolate kale cake (http://foodieunderground.com/chocolate-kale-cake-with-sea-salt/) with some coffees to round off the kaley evening.

Oh what a wonderful giveaway – I immediately signed the petition and liked the facebook-page!
I’ve just recently tried out kale crisps, so that would be a given at the party. Also a refreshing drink; I think mixed kale, lime juice, vodka, loads of crushed ice, a little bit of soda water and a bit of red grenadine for the color would do it! For those a bit more hungry would have the option of chickpeas-kale-burgers and a cream fraiché-honey dip, put between two pieces of grilled squash, instead of buns. And something for the sweet tooth: kale-and-chocolate-balls rolled in chopped hazelnuts!

I signed the petition just now :) I would serve kale at a party in a kale and spaghetti squash gratin dish that I make. The bitterness of the kale balances out the sweetness of the squash and cuts through the all the cheese. It’s a delicious and made weekly at my house :)

Just signed the petition! If I were invited to the kale party, I would watercolor the kale, cut it all out and make a 3-D paper salad. And I would blog all about it. This is as clever as I can be on a Friday night.

Petition signed and kale page liked! (Do we need to send Obama some kale seeds to grow his own and reap the full benefits?) I’m planning to incorporate kale into my Polish grandmother’s recipes. Pierogi and beet soup with kale, delicious! I also love the kale cocktail idea!

Great initiative! Petition signed, FB page liked, and hoping to bring my visiting mom (who has celiac disease and so is gluten free) to kale fest on Wed…as for how to serve kale at a party, I love all these ideas. I’d probably come up with some kind of cold velouté of kale to serve as a starter, or maybe a dip with fromage blanc and kale.

Signed and liked. Here’s hoping that more and more people will come to know the enjoyment and health benefits of whole foods. I’d serve my guests a Kale & coconut pesto cauliflower crust tart and Kale chips of course!
