Happy Friday friends! There have been a few exciting things happening this week that should lead to some new great things for The Kale Project which ultimately (and hopefully) just leads to more kale, more often in more places.
One exciting thing actually happened back in January that I want to share. The Kale Project will be making its TV debut this Saturday on Tendances Ô.
For an entire day, a camera woman and a French food blogger came over to chez TKP to talk all about kale and make a few recipes. Luckily the food blogger, Bianca, had spent some time in the states – Seattle nonetheless – so she clearly had previous experiences with kale. I always find that if I’m doing any press for the Project, it always helps when I don’t have to do a kale 101. Although I love a kale 101 since that is still so much a part of the movement.
Initially, I was super-motivated and said I would make the effort to talk about the recipes in French. Thank goodness they told me that I didn’t have to. I was nervous enough trying to speak clearly in English – I can’t imagine how difficult French would have been.
And when I get nervous, I bring out a few more American “likes,” than desired. I also start to touch my hair a lot – so if that comes across – well then you know why. It’s funny, I spent my life doing musical theatre and loving it but because this was in between being rehearsed and just talk as-you-go, I felt more uneasy than I ever have on stage.
There were moments that were more staged than I expected. For instance, Bianca and I had to a few takes of her knocking on my door and our greeting. I was pretending as if I knew her but clearly you can tell that I don’t. I’m not sure whether this added or took away from any natural feeling. The entire experience was really fun. Bianca and the camerawoman were so friendly and energetic and in the end really interested about kale. They even got into the kale massage.
Because until just this week, our building did not have fiber optic cables, our television worked but not that well. So I do not watch any French TV and have no idea what type of show Tendances Ô is, so don’t judge if it’s really really cheesy with side-effects. But I can’t complain that The Kale Project was asked to be included.
Unfortunately, I will not be able to catch the program since I am on a mother/daughter/cousin trip in Istanbul for the week and P is going to be in New York for work. And neither he nor I ever had the energy to ever ask about something like DVR in France, so we can’t record the show on our TV that may or may not work. If you’re around and check it out, let me know how it is!

I’m dying to watch this but what a crapola time! I’m totally going to miss your TV star debut! If you ask the network nicely they’ll give you a copy of the show, they have intern lackies doing this all day (I would know, I was one).

Hi there, Channel 19 on SFR. I will also try to record it for you. You can decide if it is worth it to trek out to Saint Cloud to watch it :) Enjoy Istanbul, it is one of my absolute favorite cities in the world. Also, if you have time try to take a ferry to the islands that don’t allow cars. Quite exquisite really and the top of the mountain holds one of the loveliest monasteries you can imagine. (Open to the public). Sorry, I don’t remember the name of it off hand.
