For those of you in America or those that are big American football fans, I’m sure you’re already aware of the Super Bowl ad that stole many hearts. Developed by The Richards Group for Dodge, “God Made A Farmer,” was the most talked-about in the advertising world around the water-cooler the next day. (By the way, I never actually had a water-cooler chat when I worked in the corporate world – does that actually happen?)
While there are a lot of things that could be argued around the concept of the ad and about the American agricultural industry and how so much of it is not like this at all anymore, I still think the imagery is beautiful and would have been very proud to be part of the team that developed it. What do you think?

I am an atheist. I am a vegetarian. I loved the ad and it made me cry.

I think there are a lot of things about the farming industry that of course they left out and a lot of negatives – but it definitely idealizes a part of the American dream, etc.

I really liked this ad! It was powerful, and agreed, the imagery is fantastic.

I know! I love when ads use prose or poetry. A few other favorites are: VW http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5U9I7QrpSkk (my husband worked on this one actually!) and Levi’s http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdW1CjbCNxw

I loved the power of this ad and as an American it tugged at my heartstrings. But another, more cynical part of me wonders about the message this ad sends as it ignores the true heart of American farming — the immigrant laborer.

Completely agree Ann – 100%. Also how the big business of agriculture (overproduction of corn, GMO soybeans, etc.) has completely turned the way we eat upside down.
